Highs and Lows

The last couple of weeks have been filled with some wonderful highs and some crazy lows. Usually life seems to float somewhere more in the middle, but it feels like lately it is one extreme or the other. So I thought I'd share some of these highs and lows with you so you can see for yourself how up and down things have been :)

Kevin's new job- HIGH- About three weeks ago Kevin started a new job with Mountain America as their Interaction Designer. He loves it and of course that makes me so so happy! It is fun to have my nerdy coding web hubbie back ;) It's a wonderful job and I'm so grateful that Kevin not only works so hard to provide for us, but that he enjoys what he's doing. Yeah MACU!!!

The bathroom ceiling- LOW- The other week I was in the bathroom and I was....well.....quite frankly "using" the bathroom if you catch my drift........and suddenly out of nowhere the ceiling came crashing down and fell right on top of me! Ummm is it just me or has that ever happened to anyone else out there? I have a LOT of fears, but my brain never thought of that one! I kind of screamed and it was pretty loud so of course Kevin came running in to see what had happened. Meanwhile I'm sitting there yelling at him, "Eeeeeew GET OUT OF HERE!!! Don't you see what I'm doing?!?" It was a random and bizarre moment, but I guess that's life. Here is a pic to help you understand exactly what fell on me.....(don't worry, I'm not recreating where I was sitting at the time....oh and this was totally and completely a freak accident. Don't start to think that Clayton and Amanda's house is in bad shape because it is the most beautiful and wonderful home!!!)

Dr. Thackeray-HIGH- So my OB has always been (and I hope always will be) Dr. Thackeray (AKA Dr. Twinkly eyes) and oh how I love him. Kevin changed jobs so for four months there I had to switch doctors and it was totally traumatic for me. I seriously LOVE DR. T!!! So when Kevin switched over to Mountain America I got to switch back over to Dr. Thackeray :) I had my first appointment back with him last Friday and it completely lived up to all my expectations. I had debated whether or not to run and hug him when I first saw him, but I was able to contain my excitement and just shook his hand ;)  It was so wonderful to be back at IMC and he even made my life better by telling me that I don't have to do the glucose test and drink that nasty drink! He says I'm doing great and that I'm healthy so don't have to go thru that! YAY!!! What a wonderful and perfect doctor he is ♥

Getting bigger- LOW- I've now reached my third trimester so I'm starting to feel the aches, pains, and discomforts of being pregnant. It feels like every day I'm pulling some new muscle just by doing something simple like reaching for Sam's toy or running five steps to put the grocery cart back. It's ridiculous! I go to sleep with a heating pad to help my back so it can function the next day and then cruelly enough, last night I dreamed that I was dancing and was absolutely beautiful and spot on. I whipped out ten pirouettes and the audience was on their feet applauding me and oh it felt so good! Then I wake up and have to face this.........

(Bahaha! I sent this pic to some of my family as a funny little joke.....Kevin said he burst out laughing in the middle of a meeting! No one probably thought it was as funny as I did though.....I think I sat and giggled at it for a half hour straight!!! I'm glad I find myself so amusing)

Put an offer on a house- HIGH/LOW- We found a great home in a really amazing area and put an offer in right after we looked at it. It was so exciting to finally feel like we were in the game and were making things happen and then the next day we found out that they had accepted another offer because their down payment was in cash......no competing with that! We weren't devastated by any means, but we really were so excited to be done looking and done with trying to make all these scary life decisions. It is just so hard knowing where we should even look and the fact that there is literally nothing out there right now isn't helping. I just wish I could know where we are meant to be and then I could just calm down and let it all unfold in its own time and its own way. I guess we just have to be patient and have faith that it will all work out.....even if that means we are still "homeless" when this baby girl comes!

Clayton's Doughnut- LOW- So Clayton travels a lot for work and he was traveling thru Seattle and I guess there is a really yummy doughnut shop there so he told Kevin and I to pick a doughnut and he'd bring it home to us. Super fun right? So for two days I sat and tried to decide out of all the doughnuts in the world which one I would want. I ended up choosing a maple bar for myself and told Kevin to pick an apple fritter so I could have that kind too ;) The day came when he was on his way home and guess what happened??? He got pulled over for talking on his phone with Amanda because apparently in Seattle it is illegal to talk and drive at the same time! So he had to hurry to the airport so he wouldn't miss his flight and didn't have time to get my doughnut :( Sad story huh? Nevermind Claydawg and the frustration and expense of getting a ticket........think of poor clueless me happily at home waiting for my doughnut like a chump..........hehehe ;)

My Family- HIGH- I'll end on a high note. I have the best family ever. I am so touched at how much they care about what is going on in my life. They really do want the best for me and Kevin and it is so wonderful to feel so loved. Cute Claymanda came downstairs last night and basically told us not to feel any pressure or anxiety to find a house, that we are welcome here as long as we need. How wonderful are they? Not only to let us live in their home, but be so welcoming and so supportive. Then I got a call from my mom this morning and again was reassured that everything would be ok and not to worry. That everything will work out the way it is supposed to. I love that my family is looking out for us and has our best interest at heart. It really means so much :) I better stop writing about them.......I'm starting to get teary here........(you'll notice I didn't mention Morgie....talking about her really gets the water works flowing!!!) I just love them and couldn't be luckier :)

So there you have it. I'm sure this week will be full of more highs since it is Kevin's birthday and Valentines Day! Hopefully the highs will continue to outweigh the lows as we keep pushing forward........they definitely are right now considering I have a bag of chocolate kisses in my lap :)

The Fitting Room Nazi and the Beast.......

Do you ever feel you've become the worst version of yourself? That a Pandora's box of all the secret, hateful parts - your arrogance, your spite, your condescension - has sprung open? Someone upsets you and instead of smiling and moving on, you zing them. "Hello, it's Mr Nasty."- Joe Fox, You've Got Mail.

Today I've been in a really bad mood. The "I want to punch a hole in the wall" kind of mood. It kind of scares me, but I think I have a REALLY mean side..........(hopefully you aren't reading this thinking "Oh wow you didn't know you were a mean person already??") I don't want to be upset or feel like this, but every once in a while it creeps out and let me tell you.....it is scary.

So what helps a person when they feel down in the total depths of despair? Chocolate and shopping right?!? So I got Sam and went to Target because my wonderful Mom gave me a gift card there so I thought I would put it to good use. MISTAKE. Take my warning.......if you are in a "I want to punch a hole in the wall" kind of mood then STAY AT HOME! Don't leave the house! You are a ticking time bomb and who knows when, who, or what will set you off.

I unfortunately had the misfortune of running into the "Fitting room Nazi." I had two shirts, two belts (I want to look like one of those cute stylish prego people) and a pair of leggins I wanted to try on. Sam was sitting in the big red cart and my bag and coat were in there so I figured I could just push it all in a big fitting room while I tried on my stuff real quick. I go up to the "sweet looking old lady" at the fitting room entrance (AKA Fitting Room Nazi) and tell her I have two shirts and some pants I want to try on.
"Those aren't pants they are leggins and you can't try them on."
"Uh but how will I know if they fit?"
"You can't try on those leggins."
Ok. At this point I'm already about to lose it, but instead I just slowly say, "Ok......then I guess I just have two shirts to try on."
She gives me a number thing with a two on it and I start to push my cart back to a room.
"You can't bring the cart back there."
Now I'm really starting to lose my patience and I snarkily say, "Ok.........so I have to take out all my stuff and my son so I can go try on two shirts? I can't just go into a big fitting room?"
"You can't bring a cart back there."
-Silence-
I grab my bag, my coat, Sam (who was perfectly happy sitting in there which never happens), my two shirts, and my two belts and try to go back there without dropping everything and completely losing it. I'd definitely say that I'm visibly upset at this point and I was not trying to hide it at all. Then I hear..........
"You can't bring those belts into the fitting room."
 ...................and suddenly the bomb explodes................
"I can't try on these belts???"
"You can't bring belts into the fitting room."
"You are seriously telling me that I can't try on a belt here in the "fitting room" where you try on clothes?!? Are you seriously kidding me right now???"
"No. You can't bring belts into the fitting room."
"YOU WON'T LET ME TRY ON A BELT???"
"No. You can't bring belts into the fitting room."
-Silence-
I then slam the belts and my number two thingy onto her desk and stomp back to the dressing room and shut the door with surprisingly unbelievable force.

I admit it was not my finest moment. I should have stayed away from people today. Luckily the two shirts fit and look really cute so that kind of helped. Not sure if the belts would have been cute..........guess we will never know. Now I'm at home eating a bag of Lindor chocolates so hopefully the day will only get better from here. Maybe I'll just blame my awful behavior and feelings on being crazy hormonal and pregnant (even though I sadly think I would have acted the same way even if I wasn't pregnant). So until I feel better I think it is wise to stay far away ;) Poor poor Kevin.........he has no idea what he is coming home to......

A Memory Stirs........

I woke up this morning and was kind of troubled. I didn't sleep at all last night and knew my subconscious was worried or stressed about something. I hate it when that happens. Especially when you don't even know what it is! Kevin saw my face when he got up and said, "Oh uh.......are you mad at me?" Haha! I totally wasn't, I just felt uneasy and tired and he totally read that all over my face. I reassured him that he didn't do anything wrong and that I wasn't mad :) As the morning went on I was playing with Sam and then wham! It suddenly hit me. I knew exactly what was making me so jumpy......

When I was pregnant with Sam I had the horrible experience of going thru kidney stones. My story is not your average kidney stone story and I'll just leave it at that. What struck me this morning though, is that it was a Thursday (because Matheson Dental doesn't work on Thursday's) so I was at home and I was 23 weeks pregnant when the pain suddenly came. Well my friends, today is THURSDAY and I am 23 WEEKS PREGNANT...............DUN DUN DUN!!!! How flip'n scary is that?!?!? I mean seriously?!?!?!?

I know that nothing will happen today (though I do worry every day about reliving that nightmare with this pregnancy) but it still is a spooky and eerie day for me. It was funny because Kevin even called and wanted to come home for lunch, which he NEVER does, and that's what he did that same day too! So I told him no way! Don't you dare come home! Stay at work!!! Hmmmmm...........ya maybe it does look like I am mad at him. Lol.

So there you go. If you see me and I seem a little on edge you will know why :) I haven't really blogged about my pregnancy yet so if you are curious I am 23 weeks along like I said and we are having a little girl in May! I'd post a "prego belly pic" of me, but I think that is weird and gross so you will just have to use your imagination ;) So far everything has been healthy and normal (besides the fact that I have 2 placentas......what the???) and she is definitely a little dancer :) During my big ultrasound they could barely see what they needed to see because she was all over the place! hehe! We are struggling in the name department (because we were so sure it was a boy) so any suggestions would be useful ;) Just because it is fun and on my mind right now, here are our favorite names........tell me which one you like best!

Dorothy Morgan Davis (nickname Dottie)
Gemma Faye Davis (Gem)
Margaret Jane Davis (Maggie, Mags, or Meg)
Dawn Rebecca Davis

Happy New Years!

Wow.....what a crazy month December was! I'm kicking myself for not blogging since November, but its ok I'll just make up for lost time now:)

It was an absolute perfect Holiday for us here at the Davis residence (AKA Claymanda's house) We had so many fun moments.......going to see Alfie Boe perform, Christmas Shoe shopping, finding out we are having a GIRL and seeing her dance all over the place, our annual Christmas Eve party/program, Christmas morning with Sam (who actually understood what was going on and was so excited to open presents!), seeing Les Mis and completely losing all emotional control, our sibling Christmas party with an intense book/sock exchange, a beautiful funeral for Kevin's Grandma that was so wonderful, magical times playing in the snow, a fun Anniversary dinner at Market Street Grill, and a super fun New Years Eve party with great friends and lots of great laughs :) PHEW! That's a lot of good things!!!

It really was such a perfect Christmas and I'm sad it is gone, but today I feel a renewed sense of energy and hope so I think my B.S.P.C.D.B.D. (Boo's severe post Christmas day blues disorder) has finally cleared up :) ......(if you think I made that up then ask Kevin about it..he told me I had it and he is a psychology major after all.....)

It's strange that a whole year has gone by. I remember blogging last year about my resolutions and hopes for the coming year and now life seems to be in such a different place. I feel like I'm in a different place and am different person now. Can you really change that much in just a year? Kevin and I were talking about our best/worst of 2012 and we decided that selling our condo was definitely our worst (took up 9 months of our year) and finding out we were expecting a girl was our best (though Alfie Boe was a close second;)

Just to keep up with tradition, here are my Resolutions for 2013
~Two thousand and thirteen....a new peanut for the bean~

-Get organized and be more responsible!!! (no more late bills, warrants, or expired cars/licenses)

-Read my scriptures every single day

-Go to the Temple once a month with Kevin

-Be more tidy (I'm sure not only Kevin will appreciate this one, but Claymanda and Sam will too!)

-Enjoy being pregnant - I feel like I've been so down and negative because this pregnancy has been a lot harder, but I should enjoy every minute of it even if I'm puking, crying, dying of heartburn, choking down antibiotics, or have insomnia :) It's worth it! I'm going to have my own little girl! My very own little boo!!!

-Be a better mom and a better wife

-And lastly find a place to call home and settle down and live happily ever after..........(cheesy much? I know, but seriously we are officially looking for a house so let us know if you know of anything!)

And now I'll leave you with the few pictures I took this Holiday Season. I hope you have Happy New Year and that your S.P.C.D.B.D. leaves you as soon as possible!!!

My Bad Day.......(part 2)

My idiotic saga continues...........(if you haven't read my previous blog post then do so now or this will make no sense whatsoever)

So I go to the DMV to clear my license since it was suspended and I had no idea what to expect. Trips to the DMV can be pretty epic so I was nervous. Especially since the night before I had a dream that I went to the DMV and told them why I was there and they smiled and nodded and told me to follow them to a back room. I went back with them and suddenly a cop grabbed Sam and walked out of the room and before I could say anything the other cops surrounded me and all came at me............it was awful!!!  Kevin wanted me to ask my dad to watch Sam while I went or to come with us, but there was no way I was ever going to tell my dad my story! He would be so disappointed in me! I tell my mom EVERYTHING and I hadn't even told her any of this at this point, but we'll get to that later...

We got there and you have to fill out a huge sheet so I do my best to hurry and I eventually looked down to see what Sam was doing because he was being so patient and so good and he was playing with something on the ground. Never figured out what it was, but I'm pretty sure it was either vomit or poo.....so gross!!! Smelled like death! Bleh......So I'm trying to clean him up while we are standing in this long line (try and picture this if you can) but Sam wanted me to hold him and wouldn't stand on his own so I'm carrying him and my big bag and all the paperwork and the mystery gunk, which is now on me, and Sam has now decided that it was a good time to touch and name all of my facial parts (eyes, nose, teeth, hair, etc) meanwhile I'm dodging his nasty fingers and trying not to drop anything while ignoring all the stares from the huge line of people surrounding me. Sheesh! It was a long line. We eventually made our way to the lady and I tell her why I am there and she simply gives me a number and tells me to sit and wait.

I was bummed I had to wait again, but grateful she didn't chew me out like the last lady. So we sat and waited for a super long time. I looked at all the workers there and secretly decided the ones that I wanted to help me and the ones that I didn't want to help me. Luckily the girl that called my number was one that I wanted! I told her why I was there and she took the papers from me and did a lot of clicking on her computer and then asked, "Are you also here to renew your license?" I was confused and asked her what she meant. So it turns out that my license had been expired since August so ya.......

"Wait........your telling me that my drivers license was suspended AND expired???" She simply said yes and gave me a moment to soak it all in. Then she said, "Its a really good thing you didn't get pulled over..." Ya you have no idea. I couldn't even respond. In my head I was adding everything up. So if I would have gotten pulled over I would have had a warrant out for my arrest, a suspended drivers license, and an expired license! They would have cuffed me for sure!!!! I would have done jail time!!!!!!!! Me!!!!! All for rolling through a stupid stop sign! GAH!!!

I paid my fee and they took a new picture of me (which I totally look like a vampire in it p.s.) and they gave me my temporary license and I was out of there as fast as I could go. I sat in the car and gave myself a moment to try to shake off all my nerves and I looked at my phone and I had gotten a text from my mom. Crap. I mentioned before that I hadn't told her any of this and I knew she would see my blog and if she was mad/disappointed then she just wouldn't say anything and if she felt bad for me then she would call me. Well it turns out she didn't feel any of those things......she was laughing hysterically! She thought the whole thing was hilarious! She took me out to lunch right then and there and it totally made the past two days feel like no big deal. We laughed and laughed and she shared all the stupid things my siblings have done and how much trouble they had gotten in and I felt loads better! I wont share, but know that I'm not the only crazy McDonald that's out there ;)

So I think my "bad day" is officially over. I definitely have learned A LOT from this ordeal and I vow to be more responsible from here on out! Look out world! There's a new boo in town! The worst part and saddest thing of all of this is that this is totally a justified "white donuts" situation and I didn't even get my white donuts to make myself feel better :( Stupid hostess. If any of you were lucky enough to get a bag before they were gone please feel free to drop off one white donut on our porch for me :) Thank you.

My Bad Day........

Do you ever get that feeling where you feel like you are in trouble and you don't know why??? Well, I have that feeling today but I know exactly why I am in trouble.......... This is a sad and horribly embarrassing story so please be kind when you see me and don't make fun of me too much! (I think the reason I am sharing this with you is to make light of the situation and make myself feel better......? Hopefully it will work)

So back in June I did a post on how I got pulled over for my very first time. I was pretty mad I got pulled over considering it was because "I rolled thru a stop sign"..... This is what I remember happening. He pulled me over and gave me a piece of paper and told me that I had 6 months to go into court, plea guilty, and pay the fine and if I didn't go in then it would be on my record and they would mail me my fine. That is EXACTLY what he told me. So I kind of put it on the back burner because ya know life has been kind of busy (selling our townhome, moving, getting pregnant, new job, etc....) and it wasn't even a ticket, but I knew I had to get it done by December.

So the day after Thanksgiving I was having a lovely time eating Sushi with my awesome cousin Janeen and Clayton and Amanda when I brought up that I should go and get this taken care of. Janeen and Amanda immediately were really serious and anxious about it and told me to call and go in right away. So that's what I did today. Oh today. What a crappy day today has been. I hate today. I call and talk to a million people before I find who I should be talking to and guess what? Oh no big deal but there is a warrant out for me and my drivers license has been suspended. WHAT?!? SERIOUSLY??? I told the lady on the phone what the cop had told me and that there must be some mistake and she had no clue why he would have said any of that. Apparently (and you probably all know this but me) if you get a citation you have 14 days to go in and if you don't then they put out a warrant for you. So ya......I have been a fugitive on the run for five months now. FIVE FLIP'N MONTHS!!! Do yo know how lucky I am that I haven't gotten pulled over??? They probably would have arrested me and who knows what they would have done with Sam. Ugggggh! I am completely sick about all this right now. I can't believe all because I rolled thru a stop sign (which btw I totally stopped!) I am in this much trouble. I feel like a complete idiot and I guess today it proves that I really am.

So today I went into the court and paid my fat fine while listening to the lady behind the glass repeatedly ask me "Did you not know there is a warrant out for you?"...."You have a warrant after you"....."Your license is suspended"....."How did you not know to come in?"..."How did you not know there was a warrant out for you?".........I tried to explain that the address they had in their system was one that we lived at five years ago so I never got any mail or had any clue I was in trouble but apparently that was my fault too. I thought bringing Sam with me would soften whoever I had to talk with, but it didn't help. It was totally and completely humiliating. So tomorrow I will go into the DMV and give them the clearance to remove my suspension (that is if I don't get pulled over on the way there.....) and get the whole lecture all over again.

Since today was already so awful (forgot to mention the part where I accidentally opened the car door right in Sam's head giving him a huge goose egg.......poor boy!) I decided to finally go in and get that dreaded flu shot I've been avoiding. Might as well right? Lets just make this day as bad as it can get! So I went in and got it and had a fun conversation with another pregnant girl who was waiting there and we talked about root canals and kidney stones.......it was delightful. Best part of my day. Hopefully Kevbev will come home and make the night right and hopefully Sam will have forgiven me when he wakes up from his nap. So here's to all of you who are having a bad day today. Cheers! Maybe I'll laugh about this one day, but for now I'll continue feeling something like this.................

Sushi

Lets talk sushi. I LOVE sushi. It really is quite simply amazing and I think I could eat it every single day. I debated on whether or not I should write this post about it because I knew it would make me want it that much more, but we had a fun little experience so I thought I would share :)

Now before I start, I know what you are probably thinking.........you're pregnant! You shouldn't be eating sushi! So I've decided that there are different levels of sushi eaters. You have your beginning level which basically will only eat something like a California Roll. California Rolls have crab in them which is cooked so technically you aren't eating raw fish.

This is one of my favorite rolls so I don't think its wussy if this is all you can eat :) If you have never tried sushi definitely start out with this bad boy........YUMMMM! Ok, so the second level is the intermediate level which basically means you can handle most rolls and will eat slabs of raw fish on/in your roll. I think I fall into this category. Some I think is nasty but I've had some yummy sushi where they lay the fish on top with a slice of lemon and Mmmm! Perfection!

The last level I call the advanced level (or the you are out of your mind level) which eats pretty much anything they put in front of you......it is beautiful to look at but I don't know if I will ever be able to handle sashimi (raw slabs of meat served by itself). I am definitely not there yet. Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

So back to my fun story........my mom volunteered to take Sam for a couple hours so we could go on a date and I knew right away what I wanted. SUSHI! My two most favorite rolls in the world are the California Roll and the Vegas Tempura Roll.......here's a pic.......

This is hands down my favorite. I love it SO MUCH! It is amazing. Its practically like eating dessert it tastes so good! And the best part is that the salmon in it is smoked so it is cooked too! So even though I am pregnant I can eat my two favorite rolls. Tender mercies :) Haha jk!

So we went to Tsunami in Sugar house which is some of the best tasting sushi I've ever had. I was still a little nervous to go just because there is still a small chance that the chef could use a knife that already cut raw fish and then use it to prepare mine......but that is so unlikely so ya.....we went. We were seated at the Sushi bar which was a super fun experience! I've never sat there before and I probably didn't look as cool as I felt but oh well! I felt cool! We chatted it up with all the sushi chefs and got our yummy sushi. Next to me there was an older couple who definitely fell into the "advanced level" of sushi eaters. They were eating some frightening yet mesmerizing stuff. Suff that looked like this.....

They started to tease us because we were being such wimps with our sushi so I made the defense comment that I was pregnant so I couldn't eat what they were eating even if I wanted too (though I totally did NOT want too) Then the man said "Oh its fine. Eating sushi in moderation when you are pregnant is totally acceptable." We just kind of sat there and then his cute wife said, "You can trust him. He's a doctor" Turns out this guy sitting next to us is the head NICU Doctor up at Primary's. Amazing! All my worries flew out the window and I started eating the rest of their ugly sushi that they didn't want and then jumped over the bar and ate all the raw fish I could find................ok ok so maybe not...........I didn't eat any "real" sushi but at least I felt safe and now I can eat as many California and Vegas rolls I want!!! (Well in moderation I suppose ;) It was a fun night! So if you are pregnant and craving sushi go at it! And if you have never tried it go for it! And if you already love sushi then call me and lets go! Man I love it. So for now I guess I'll eat my wafer cookie and dream of something even better........ Mmmmm sushi :)
